3 women fired on the same day file for gender discrimination

On Behalf of | May 27, 2014 | Employment Disputes |

Regardless of gender or any other discriminating factors, all employees by law are to be treated equally in the workplace. Unfortunately, cases of discrimination still occur in Texas and across the country. If an employee believes that this is happening and he or she does not speak up to put an end to the actions, the behavior will continue and other workers may be subjected.

Female employees who worked for the company conducting business as Fortis College have filed a claim against their employer. The three women believe that they lost their jobs due to gender discrimination. They also feel that they were the victims of some form of retaliation when they tried to speak up about their situations.

One of the women filed charges of sexual harassment against her supervisor and claimed that he made it clear that there would be consequences. Two of the other women felt that they were not receiving promotions for which they were qualified. One woman alleges that she was referenced as an old lady by one of her superiors who found out that she was going to complain to the EEOC.

All three of the women lost their jobs on the same day. The company’s reason for termination was because there was a conflict of interest due to another company that the women had started, which could possibly compete with the school. The plaintiffs stated that the company was not in direct competition with Fortis College and did not have the funds to start doing business.

The women also suspect that they suffered because another employee who was less qualified and in a higher ranking position was also part of one of the other startup companies involving the women, but he did not lose his job as the women did. The plaintiffs are filing a discrimination claim against their employer for front and back pay as well as legal fees and damages. If a Texas employee feels that he or she has been the victim of discrimination, he or she may elect to file a claim against the employer to seek monetary reparation.
